Dear HCHS Parents,
It has been another great year at Hinsdale Central thanks to the combined efforts of students, faculty, school administration and parents. As we approach our summer schedule the PTO is putting together our itinerary for what we anticipate will be a fantastic 2010-2011 school year. We are excited to begin the new year and we hope you will take a minute to consider how you might be involved in helping us continue to “Make Excellence Central!”The Hinsdale Central PTO plays a key role in the enrichment of students, faculty and staff at Hinsdale Central.In addition we facilitate communication of timely topics between school and home. We do this primarily through regular communication with our Principal, Deans, Faculty, the District 86 Administration, our multiple monthly emails and the PTO website. PTO members participate in many ways including: -- Participating in monthly PTO meetings followed by Conversations with our new Principal, Michael McGrory. -- As a board members on one of our standing boards -- As volunteers helping as needed in various projects throughout the year.

Proceeds from your PTO membership provide 90% of the funds we use to sponsor our programs and events which have a measurable effect on the level of excellence experienced by Red Devil students, faculty and staff. Paying PTO dues of $25.00 entitles your student/s to be listed in the school directory and supports a variety of PTO programs which benefit students, teachers, and staff. The directory is an invaluable tool. It not only provides a way for your student to contact classmates, but also includes vital telephone and email information for administration and faculty, student services and athletic teams, plus quick references, special day schedules, and the school year calendar.

In 1977 the Hinsdale Central High School Parent Teacher Organization adopted as its only annual fund raising project, the Book Grant Fund. This fund was established to provide grants to graduating seniors who, without additional financial aid, might not be able to meet the expenses of their first year of college.
TheFAMILIES HELPING FAMILIEScommittee helps Hinsdale Central students and families with emergency needs which the school cannot fulfill. Requests are vetted by the Hinsdale Central Social Work Department to ensure the need. We then supply food, clothing, emergency supplies, medical transportation -- whatever essentials may be required. From our beginning in 2007 we have successfully helped every case which has been brought to our attention. The thank you notes from these students and families are touching reminders of a reality many of us do not have to face. Your kind consideration of a donation is appreciated.
The Teacher Appreciation Committee puts together on-going programs designed to recognize and acknowledge the teachers for their efforts and support of the students. Last year's programs recognized the teachers on numerous occasions: the Fall Book Drive for the teacher lounge, Apple Day for Homecoming, Pumpkin Pies for Thanksgiving etc.
Each year the PTO sponsors a Holiday Breakfast, before Winter Break, to thank teachers and staff for their hard work and launch the Holidays in a festive way. It is truly a wonderful time for faculty, staff, and PTO.
